Garage painting for a space that takes real wear.
Garages get damp, dust, exhaust and knocks, and are often unplastered or previously unpainted. The specification is closer to a light industrial job than to a bedroom.
- Free site inspection
- Written, itemised quote
- 1-year workmanship warranty
- Same-day callback

At a glance
Can a garage be painted like a normal room?
Not usually. Garage walls are often bare masonry or rough plaster, frequently damp at the base, and take knocks, dust and exhaust that interior emulsion was never made for. The right approach is a hard-wearing, cleanable coating over a properly sealed surface, with any moisture at floor level dealt with first.
When this is the answer, and when it is not.
Sending you to the wrong service wastes your money and our time. This is how to tell.
This is likely right if
- The garage is dark, dusty and you want it lighter and easier to clean
- Bare masonry or rough plaster needs sealing and finishing
- The space is being converted to storage, a workshop or a utility area
- Existing paint is chalking or coming off on everything it touches
Something else comes first if
- Damp is rising at the base of the walls, that needs treating first
- The floor is the actual problem, which is a floor coating job
- The structure is open to weather on one side without any protection
What the service includes.
Surface and moisture check
Garages commonly have damp at low level. We check before specifying anything.
Cleaning and dust removal
Loose material, cobwebs and chalky old coatings removed so the finish can bond.
Sealing bare masonry
Porous or unpainted surfaces sealed rather than soaking up coat after coat.
Crack and hole filling
Made good where knocks and fixings have damaged the wall.
Hard-wearing finish
A cleanable coating suited to a utility space, not a decorative interior emulsion.
Clean handover
Debris removed and the space left usable.
Not included, or quoted separately
- Floor coating, which is a separate specialised service
- Rising damp treatment and structural waterproofing
- Shutter, door and gate finishing unless quoted
- Electrical, racking and storage installation
- Clearing the garage of your belongings
The sequence.
Inspect for moisture
Particularly at the base of walls and where the garage meets the ground.
Written scope
Stating whether sealing is needed and what coating is specified.
Clear and clean
You clear belongings; we remove dust, cobwebs and loose material.
Seal and fill
Bare masonry sealed, damage filled and sanded.
Apply the coating
To the agreed number of coats, in a finish that can be wiped.
Hand back
Cleaned and ready to use.
What moves the price on this job.
We do not publish a rate, because it would change once someone measured your property. These are the variables that decide it.
- Measured wall and ceiling area
- Whether surfaces are bare and need sealing
- How much cleaning and removal the existing surface needs
- Presence of damp and whether treatment is needed first
- Grade of coating specified for durability
- Whether the garage can be cleared before we start
Garage Painting — your questions.
Can you paint the garage floor as well?
Floors need a different system entirely, a floor coating specified for traffic and load, applied over a mechanically prepared slab. It is a separate service and we would quote it on its own.
The bottom of the wall is always damp. Can you paint it?
Not until that is dealt with. Damp at the base of a garage wall usually means moisture from the ground or from outside, and any coating applied over it will lift. We will identify what we think is happening and what it needs.
Do we need to empty the garage?
As much as you can. We will cover what stays, but a cleared space is faster, cleaner and cheaper, and lets us actually see the walls we are quoting for.
Will normal emulsion work in a garage?
It will go on, but it will mark and chalk quickly in that environment. A harder, cleanable coating lasts considerably longer, and the cost difference is small on a space this size.
